Chapter 5: My Magic Powder

What it is…

My concoction has earned the name of ‘Magic powder’ because, even though I am supposedly immune-suppressed, I have not gotten a cold or flu in the last six years I have been taking it… even when I was undergoing chemotherapy. In fact, as everyone around me has gotten sick, I have had to take care of them, exposing myself to the bacteria and viruses afflicting them, but not succumbing. The only times I have gotten sick were when I didn’t take it with me while travelling. While I do take occasional holidays from all my treatments, I no longer travel without it, as that is when I need its protection most.

Many of the cancer-killing and immune-boosting supplements were expensive in pill form. Wanting affordability and more control of the sourcing, I ordered bulk powder from wholesalers. I pre-mix a month-or-so supply and mix a small spoonful or so with my juice in the morning before eating to maximize absorption. I am a big believer in our bodies, our higher healing selves if you will, knowing on a sub-conscious, intuitive level, what we need to heal. When mixing, I ask my body through muscle testing what proportions of which substances are needed for the next month or so. The default is equal parts and I vary from there. Each morning I ask my body how large the spoonful should be.

In 2012, when I was given weeks to live, I didn’t have a lot to lose. I didn’t have the luxury of waiting for clinical trials that hadn’t been conducted yet, so I decided to try anything that a credible source said would detoxify or nourish me, boost my immune system, or kill cancer. I asked my oncologist and researched to ensure nothing would interfere with my chemotherapy and radiation. For example, some chemos are deadly when grapefruit is ingested and supplemental anti-oxidants can interfere with the efficacy of chemo. So you want to be sure to talk to your oncologist before taking any of these things. Warning: some oncologists will simply say no to taking anything besides western medicine. You must determine their credibility and do your own research. I fired one and my subsequent oncologists have been naturopathic, integrative, or osteopathic oncologists and are very well educated on complementary therapies.
